I think it's important for me to remember (and for you readers to know) that even though I'm so far away, my family and boyfriend are still very important parts of my life. They keep me going and support me every day. I honestly wouldn't have the strength to stay here without them. Living in Liberia is hard. Don't get me wrong, I do love it here, but there have been days when I've cried in fear and loneliness. It's scary to live in an unsafe country. Not too long ago, a man was murdered not far from where we live. I've also seen people in the city beating a man who was caught stealing. I've been warned many times not to leave the compound, and sometimes, not even my bedroom, after dark. When we go to town, I have to keep my money locked in my backpack because people will open the pockets and take things out as I walk through the streets. Of course, there's also the whole issue of having my laptop stolen, too. This country is just plain unsafe. I knew that before I came, but I don't think I really understood it.
